Pre-Apprentice Training Overview:

The Video Editing Pre-Apprenticeship Pilot is a PAID intensive 120 hour 10-week training for youth (16-20) living in the Greater New Orleans Area. This training program will provide an intensive, hands-on learning experience aimed at cultivating the skills and knowledge needed to pursue post-production careers in the film and TV industry, as well as careers in editing and motion graphics across a wide range of other industries from healthcare to business.

Training Schedule

Location: In-Person | NOVAC: New Orleans | 4422 S. Carrollton Ave. | 70119
Orientation Schedule: Friday-Sunday from 10am to 5pm
Class Schedule: Wednesday 1-4pm & Saturday 10am-5pm
Office Hours: Wednesday 12-1pm

Students will have the chance to:

  • Develop technical and soft skills necessary for professional success
  • Acquire creative knowledge, visual references, and storytelling techniques
  • Participate in relevant career experiences like set visits, job shadowing, and paid internships
  • Create a professional resume and portfolio or reel to showcase their work
  • Build a strong professional network within the industry

The program consists of a 3-day orientation and 10 weeks of coursework (10 hours per week), including Saturday classes and additional field trips and professional experiences. Participants will earn up to $15/hour during the training, earning $1,800 for 120 hours of training. Upon completion, students will be eligible for a paid, summer internship, with a minimum commitment of 40 hours over four weeks, earning at least $1,200.

Eligibility & Prerequisites:

  • Resident of New Orleans or the Greater New Orleans area
  • 16-20 years old
  • Basic digital literacy skills, some experience with creative software
  • Adobe Certification in Photoshop or Premiere Pro is a plus!

  • Demonstrate self-starting skills and the ability to work independently
  • Exposure to and/or experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Davinci Resolve
